Wisconsin School Counselor Association, Inc.
The mission of WSCA is to advance the profession of school counseling in preschool through post-secondary in order to maximize the academic performance, career planning, and personal/social growth of every student.
Most counselors think of the wonderful conference in February when they hear the term “WSCA”. Yet we are so much more and we can be even more as members take an active role in their organization. The board is comprised of many active counselors who have an interest in promoting school counseling in the state of Wisconsin. But these volunteers could use and would appreciate your support, suggestions, feedback and input. Many of the board members would appreciate having more volunteers on their committees. Most committees meet on an as needed basis and many meetings are web based. Please review the functions of the following committees and consider contacting the chair to find out how you can become involved.
Publications: This committee is in transition as it looks at new approaches of delivering a professional publication of interest to counselors in the state of Wisconsin.
Legislative: This committee works hard to keep members abreast of the legislative issues that affect school counselors and the students and schools they serve.
Conference: Members of this committee coordinate one of the best conferences in the nation for school counselors.
Scholarship and Professional Recognition: Members of this committee encourage members to nominate deserving colleagues for recognition for their dedication to the profession of school counseling. They also review 200 plus scholarship applications from high school seniors and graduate students.
Professional Development: One of the goals of WSCA is to provide quality professional development for all members. In addition to the annual conference, WSCA offers a summer leadership academy and a fall summit.
Membership: Although we have more than 1200 members we are always striving to increase our numbers as we believe all members are assets who contribute to the strength of the organization.
Technology: This committee has been dormant for the last several years but there is a need for this position to be resurrected in order for members to network using the tools and resources of the 21st century.
Public Relations and Advocacy: This committee strives to promote school counselors and their programs so all students, schools, parents and communities understand the value of school counseling for all students. A current focus is to expand sponsorships and partnerships to help expand many of the services our organization provides.
Attention WSCA Members: The WSCA Board and Committees are moving ahead on many new and exciting projects and need your help. We are looking for volunteers to serve on different committees to develop these projects and provide assistance where needed.
