Wisconsin School Counselor Association MISSION

  • To promote professional development of School Counselors & graduate students in training:

Maintenance
Hold the WSCA annual conference (conference cmt)
Hold WSCA graduate classes at the WSCA conference (conf. committee)
Hold the annual WSCA LDI (task group/President-Elect)
Hold the annual Summer Leadership Academy (education/professional development)
Maintain website (MDS/Public relations)
Counselink published quarterly (Publications)
Free student membership to WSCA for first-year graduate students (membership/grad student)
Maintain the SPARC-W process for new submissions (educ/prof dev)
Dedicated section of website for VP’s (MDS/VP’s)
Message board on website (MDS..on hold)
Maintain swap shop at conference (conf, VP, grad student)
Support trainings related to the new WCSCPM & ASCA (ed/prof dev)

  • To promote partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders and educational professionals to benefit school counselors and students:

Maintenance:
Continue to send a WSCA representative to WAPSO meetings (Past pres. & pres)
Maintain a liaison relationship with DPI school counseling consultant (president)
Maintain partnership with WEAC (Pres. Elect/legislative)
Provide scholarships to high school students for post-secondary education (professional  recognition & scholarship)
Publications to all district superintendants (publications/public relations)
Lead sectionals at other professional conferences (PR, education/prof dev)
Promote website with key stakeholders (PR)

 

New opportunities:
Promote National School Counselor Week the first week in February (PR & all board)
Establish contacts and relationships with level administrators’ associations & attend conferences. (Level VP’s & VP-elects/DPI)

  • To give direction to issues of concern to school counselors and promote and advocate for the profession of school counseling.

Maintenance:
Continue to recognize outstanding school counselor service at the WSCA annual conference. (conference, professional recognition)
Provide the award winning SPARC-W’s to district administrators and state legislators (Prof rec, gov’t relations, education)
Maintain a high quality web-site (MDS/ all)
Provide scholarships for graduate students in school counseling (scholarship)
Lead sectionals at other professional conferences (Ed dev/PR/all board)
Develop promotional materials for WSCA members to use (PR/publications/Ed & Prof dev)
Link committee work to website (cmt chair/MDS)
Action alerts for members via e-mail (Publications)
Put all publications on the members sections of the website in PDF format (publications/MDS)
Archive publications on the web site (publications/MDS)

New Opportunities:
Communicate/highlight work being done around the state by WSCA members (publications/PR)
Primer on data/data collection and on-going support (educ/prof dev, publications, PR, research)

  • To promote legislative agendas on a state and federal level that positively impact school counselors in Wisconsin.

Maintenance:
Attend the ASCA, APPI Legislative Workshop in Washington DC in the spring (president-elect, past pres, leg)
Provide award winning SPARC-W’s to state legislators (govt. rel/ed & prof  dev/professional recognition)
Legislative updates in every publication (gov. relations/PR)
Day on the Hill (govt. relations/PR)

New Opportunities:

  • Legislative updates through monthly e-newsletters with links to help counselors identify their legislators.
  • Effective use of technology-keep updating technology.
  • Develop “mechanism” to mobilize our membership very quickly with scripted response. (gov’t rel)
  • Training for Day on the Hill & for local gov’t & boards. 
  • Develop local connections with community government, mayor, city council, chamber (gov’t rel/PR)
  • To promote the practice of on-going research and evaluation of the school counseling profession in Wisconsin and the WSCA organization.

 

Maintenance:
Analyze data of outcome study (research)
Prepare a document sharing the results of the outcome study for Wisconsin (PR/pub/research)
WSCA board reflects on the results of the outcome study to research for potential direction for future goals. (all board)

New Opportunities:

  • Develop & promote a common tool for administrators to use to evaluate Professional School Counselors (Presidential appointments)
  • Promote RAMP for program evaluation through grants…provide workshops to help people write RAMP & SPARC-W .  (ed/prof, PR)
