Keynote Speaker:

Allison Edwards
The Emotional Effects of Social Media and What Schools Can Do About It
Social media is proven to increase anxiety and depression, yet 92% of all teens have social media accounts and 45% say it’s the primary way they connect to peers. Learn why the adolescent brain is more reactive to social media and how dopamine causes addictive behaviors that impair the lives of today’s teenagers. School counselors play a critical leadership role in helping students understand these effects, guiding them to develop healthy digital habits, and advocating for schoolwide and policy-level strategies that promote balance, connection, and resilience. Counselors will leave with actionable tools to support students and families in making better choices, managing their time effectively, and building meaningful peer relationships beyond the screen.

You’re Invited!
Please consider joining us for the National School Counseling Week’s Breakfast Event! This is the sixth annual Breakfast event that the Wisconsin School Counselor Association has hosted, and this provides us an opportunity mid-year to connect as professionals and colleagues (especially since our annual conference has moved to November). We look forward to continuing this WSCA tradition!
This year, we are focusing on the high value that a cohesive relationship between School Counselors and Administration brings to our schools. As an association, we highly anticipate our Keynote speaker Allison Edwards’s address- she will certainly be inspiring, and will invigorate our passion for our work as educators! I personally hope that we can experience this speaker together, and continue the conversation afterwards and provide the best support we can for our students.
Check out the details on the Wisconsin School Counselor Association’s website at /nscw-breakfast-2026/.
We also understand that times are busy right now- if you can’t make it to the live event with me, we can meet and talk about it together after I’ve attended!
Please let me know what thoughts or questions you have, and I look forward to engaging in this opportunity with you,
