This year’s Summer Leadership Academy will provide an opportunity for pupil services professionals to build their knowledge and skills related to managing difficult ethical challenges. This year we are offering an invitation to all pupil service professionals to partner with us in this learning opportunity.
Real-life scenarios encountered by Wisconsin pupil services professionals will be shared and discussed. The ethical standards of the four pupil services professions will be compared and contrasted as a means of each participant gaining a greater understanding of his/her own profession’s code of ethics, including a review of the 2010 revisions to the ethical standards for school counselors and school psychologists.
Participants will leave with an understanding of how to systematically address ethical challenges using a decision-making model. The lead instructor is:
Nic Dibble, Consultant, School Social Work, Department of Public Instruction:
Nic Dibble has provided training and consultation on ethics and professional boundaries to pupil services professionals in Wisconsin and nationally for close to a decade. He is the co-author of Ethical Decision-Making in School Mental Health (2011) and the chapter on ethics in the upcoming revision of The School Services Sourcebook: A guide for School-Based Professionals (in press), both publishes by Oxford University Press.

Our day will include a panel of four pupil services professionals (one from each profession). Time will be allowed for questions and answers.

For anyone registering for the workshop, there is an opportunity to earn one graduate credit through Concordia University. The credit course will begin at 7:30 the morning of the workshop to provide time for course registration and explanation of requirements. Course participants will meet following the workshop to complete some of the onsite responsibilities and review the procedures for follow up assignments.
