Vinehout Awarded Jerome Henning Legislator Award
Kathleen Vinehout, WI, has been awarded the 2016-2017 Jerome Henning Legislator award from the Wisconsin School Counseling Association. The Jerome Henning Legislature Award is awarded to the member of legislature who have made significant contributions to the school counseling profession.
Vinehout has fought to bring equality to school funding. Vinehout sponsored a program titled Sparsity Aid, which brings financial help to smaller, rural school districts. She has also led the Rural Caucus into creating a plan that eases some of the mandates schools face. Vinehout has been awarded the Legislature of the Year award by the School Administrators Alliance, along with the Joan Dykstra Friends of Children Award by Wisconsin Congress of Parents and Teachers. Vinehout educates others about what students are facing and is an advocate for change.
Each year the Wisconsin School Counselors Association, (WSCA), Scholarship Committee recognizes professionals who have made contributions to the school counseling profession. The WSCA Professional Recognition Committee was composed of current and retired elementary, middle, and high school counselors from all parts Wisconsin.
The professional recognition award winners were invited to the annual Wisconsin School Counselor Association conference in February at Monona Terrace in Madison.
