The Government Relations Committee is committed to providing members with up-to-date information regarding state and federal legislation which affects school counselors in our state. This site allows WSCA members to learn about pending bills, find out who represents them in the Wisconsin legislature and Washington, DC, and gain access to web pages that track legislation.
The committee encourages all members to advocate for Wisconsin’s children and the school counseling profession by actively engaging in the political process.
Historically, the state of Wisconsin has celebrated the academic achievements of our students. However, the budgetary cuts proposed in Governor Walker’s 2011-2013 Biennial Budget and the changes mandated in his Budget Repair Bill threaten the very core of public education and the educational futures of our students.
As vital participants in the academic achievement of students, and their healthy personal/social growth, initial career exploration, and successful developmental transitions, the 1,300 members of the Wisconsin School Counselor Association strongly encourage our state representatives and senators to continue to fully support public education in our state by standing firm against the governor's budget and legislation.
As we prepare for our Tuesday, February 19, 2013 Day on the Hill, we recognize that the existence of successful societies has always rested on the education of their constituents. To make such drastic changes in governmental support for public education at this tenuous economic time would surely threaten the success of our students, their families, and the communities for years to come.
